Been to the land of faery….

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Now I am back.  Wow. Fast and furious flies the time–100 years have come and gone.

Happy Celtic Bramble* Month!

“O, blackberry tart, with berries as big as your thumb, purple and black, and thick with juice, and a crust to endear them that will go to cream in your mouth, and both passing down with such a taste that will make you close your eyes and wish you might live forever in the wideness of that rich moment.”
~Richard Llewllyn (How Green Was My Valley)

A busy month for faeries!

It is fitting that September is the month of the snagging vine. There seems to be so many things pulling at my sleeves all at the same time.  Should I go toward that pull or maybe this one…a thousand tinny tugs that can ensnare you in inertia.  I feel like St. Anthony Tormented by the Demons, (etching by Martin Schongauer,ca.1480-90 ca.1480-90)  But if you can free yourself, and you are very careful, the sweet berries are you reward.  And I am certain they are made more delicious because of the battle you must wage against their thorny vine.
But September is a time to stand in the balance. To hold both the night and the day in equal measure–the yin and the yang, the celestial balance of light upon the hemispheres.  Bask in the late summer’s sun. Harvest the fruits of your labor, fill the stores with your bounty for Mabon, the celebration of the Autumnal Equinox on the 23, will mark the slide to Hades and the barren darkness of winter. Let the cold begin.

THE VINE OR Bramble: The Equalizer
September 2 – September 29
Vine signs are born within the autumnal equinox, which makes your personality changeable and unpredictable. You can be full of contradictions, and are often indecisive. But this is because you can see both sides of the story, and empathize with each equally. It is hard for you to pick sides because you can see the good points on each end. There are, however, areas in your life that you are quite sure about. These include the finer things of life like food, wine, music, and art. You have very distinctive taste, and are a connoisseur of refinement. Luxury agrees with you, and under good conditions you have a Midas touch for turning drab into dramatic beauty. You are charming, elegant, and maintain a level of class that wins you esteem from a large fan base. Indeed, you often find yourself in public places where others can admire your classic style and poise. Vine signs pair well with Willow and Hazel signs.

Happy Hazel Tree Month

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

With all the excitement about the new calendar I forgot to honor the Hazel Tree and those of you who are born during her month! If you were born between August 5 and September 1 you were born in the Celtic month of the Hazel Tree.  You are the “knower.” Happy Birthday!

Faery Calendar August 2011

What a month of celebrations!

Hazel – The Knower

If you are born under the energy of the Hazel, you are highly intelligent, organized and efficient. Like the Holly, you are naturally gifted in academia, and excel in the classroom. You also have the ability to retain information and can recall, recite and expound on subjects you’ve memorized with amazing accuracy. You know your facts, and you are always well informed. This sometimes makes you appear like a know-it-all to others, but you can’t help that; you’re genuinely smart and usually know the right course of action because of your impressive knowledge base. You have an eye for detail, and like things to be “just so.” Sometimes this need for order and control can lead to compulsive behaviors if left unchecked. You have a knack for numbers, science and things that utilize your analytical skills. You like rules, although you are typically making them rather than playing by them. The Celtic tree astrology sign of Hazel joins harmoniously with Hawthorn and Rowan’s.

August is also the beginning of the harvest celebrations (see earlier post on Lammas) in the Northern Hemisphere.  Enjoy the last whisper of sun before winter sets in for the long dark months.

Can you find this faery peaking under the wing of January's faery?

Can you find these little creatures?

Happy Hunting!

APRIL SHOWERS

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

April is a fickle woman in New England, she smiles her sunny smile one day and freezes you out with her cold winter snows the next.  You cannot please her; you must endure her fickle nature for she is the doorway to our beautiful summers.  Honor Earth Day, it’s just around the corner.  Clear our Earth of winter’s debris; feed Her and clean Her, plant Her and nurture Her– prepare Her for Her Summer’s glory.

The Month of Ash Begins

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Feb. 18 The Celtic Tree Month of Ash Begins

We are entering the 3rd Moon of the Celtic year; the month of Ash begins (February 18)

This is one of three trees sacred to the Druids (Ash, Oak, and Thorn.) The month of Ash is the time to focus on the inner self, a time for prophetic dreams and spiritual journeys.

Celtic Tree Astrology

Ash – The Enchanter
February 18 – March 17

Those born under the Celtic tree astrology sign of the Ash are free thinkers. Imaginative, intuitive, and naturally artistic, you see the world in water-color purity. You have a tendency to be moody and withdrawn at times, but that’s only because your inner landscape is in constant motion. You are in touch with your muse, and you are easily inspired by nature. Likewise, you inspire all that you associate with and people seek you out for your enchanting personality. Art, writing (especially poetry), science, and theology (spiritual matters) are areas that strongly interest you. Others may think you are reclusive, but in all honesty, you are simply immersed in your own world of fantastic vision and design. You are in a constant state of self-renewal and you rarely place a value on what others think about you. Ash signs partner well with Willow and Reed signs.

In the Dark Moon the faeries rest.

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

This faery says, "Good morning! It's a New Year! Wake up and celebrate!"

Faeries feel the moon’s pull, as earth’s nature does.  In the dark of the moon, they lie quiet.  The tides are low, as are their energies.  But prepare yourself for the Wolf’s Full Moon on the 19th of January.  This is Diana’s Moon, Jana’s moon.  It is the warrior moon that signals time to get the work done– to fight the demons of doubt and move forward toward your goals.  It is the moon of Gnomes and Brownies, they are the great energy of helpers. It is the portal of all your dreams waiting.  And life gives you all that you will need to succeed.

So today I am going start my desire poster.  On it I will glue pictures of the outcomes of my desires.  I will not censor myself.  It is a day of visualization and realization in preparation of the Wolf’s Moon.  The Brownies and Gnomes cannot help you if you do not provide them with a map of your desires.  When I was 10 I wanted to move to Australia, I covered my poster with images of the burnt outback and the breathtaking shores.  I did not allow the ‘reality’ of my situation — a girl living in rural New York with her family of 7 – to dampen my desire.  When I was 13 my father received a significant promotion and my family moved to Sydney, Australia.

You must believe, or as my father would say, “You must believe without the shadow of a doubt.”

Believe in your dreams.

The trolls are out in force these past weeks…

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

They have hidden my calendar deep in the dark dark caves of Amazon.com.  Unless you know the exact name of my calendar you may not find it in the search. It doesn’t come up if you search for 2011 Wall Calendars.  It doesn’t come up if you search 2011 photography calendars.  If you search “Underwood” my calendar doesn’t come up but Underwood devil ham spread does.  If you search “fairy” or “fairies” it doesn’t come up and it doesn’t come up if you type “faery.”  (I found cool faery ornaments though!) The mean trolls at Amazon have hidden my calendar in a very secret place.  So discouraging. And just when I was giving up hope of ever being found, Faerie Magazine emailed me. They put my add front and center on the first page of their website ! Leave it to the wonderful faeries to take care of me and their calendar!

Getting ready for the holidays

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

I just packaged 13 boxes of faery cards.  Each box has 13 cards of the faeries from my 2011 Faery Calendar.  They are sparkled for the holidays.  Each card has a faery blessing represented by the flower faery on the card.  I’m only selling 13 sets. Talk about a limited edition!  They are wrapped with a handmade paper belly band, and tied with grass.   I’m selling them for $39.00 a box.  (The cards I sell for $3.50 each) The cards are on heavy recycled stock, and have glitter embellishments.  You can only purchase them here on line, or at FaerieCon in November, or at the Waldorf School Holiday Event in November. (email me if you want more information)

The boxes have different paper belly bands, no two boxes are alike.

SUPPORT OUR FAERY FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER, Buy our calendar!

Each year we create a magical faery festival that is free and open to the public.  We offer faery portraits to help raise money for Cape Ann Habitat for Humanity.  The cost of the event has been growing so I decided to sell faery calendars to generate the money needed to host our festival.  My 2011 Faery Calendar is the most beautiful and child friendly faery calendar on the market– that alone is reason enough to buy one for yourself and to purchase several for gifts.  The added incentive is that the profits go toward the cost of our 2011 Faery festival in June.  You can purchase the calendars through this site, or through our studio (if you are local), or one of the many local stores, or on line through Amazon.

The faeries in our calendar. Magic every month!

If we sell all (900) of our calendars this year I will be able to print the 2012 Faery Calendar…and it is stunning. (I’ve just selected the 14 faeries for the calendar AND designed the cover and back)  I’ll give you a sneak-peek in September.  Calendar Co. in Australia has their eye on the 2012 Calendar…an international market…how cool would that be?  But first thing’s first….the 2011 Faery Calendar would make a beautiful gift, you’ll never miss a holiday, including the faery holidays, so you will always know when to party!

Faery Blessings.
